Problem

Most travel and activity planning tools are built around logistics focusing on maps, itineraries, and checklists. While practical for holidays, they often fall short when it comes to planing spontaneous, short journeys.

For many young adults, especially on weekends, the challenge isn’t feeling overwhelmed, it’s simply not knowing where to go. When free time is limited and there’s no specific plan in mind, users need something more intuitive and emotionally guided. They want light inspiration, not long lists. Yet, few tools offer a simple, personalised way to plan small journeys based on how they feel in the moment.

Goal

Design a mobile-first experience that:

guide

Helps users explore local areas like a personal guide or thoughtful friend

frinds

Supports spontaneous, low pressure planning, whether alone or with friends

journal

Encourages memory keeping and reflection through journaling tools

phone

Delivers a calm, visually engaging, and emotionally attuned interface

Design Concepts

The design is built around the idea that a meaningful journey starts with understanding the traveler, not just where they want to go, but how they feel, how they like to travel, and what kind of experience they seek.

user journey

Outcomes

This project delivered a mobile-first prototype that reimagines journey planning as a personal and mood-driven experience. Instead of generic recommendations, it offers emotionally attuned suggestions that reflect the user’s vibe, pace, and personality. The result is a lightweight planning companion that supports meaningful, memorable local exploration, especially for short, spontaneous trips.

Reflection

Through this project, I realised that meaningful design doesn’t always have to solve big problems. Sometimes, it’s about amplifying the small joys we tend to overlook. In this case, I wanted to design a product that feels more like a companion than a tool, one that understands your mood, inspires you gently, and helps you make the most of the time you have.

This journey planner embraces the quiet, in between moments of life, a slow coffee walk, an unexpected art stop, or a solo afternoon in the sun. It reminded me that good design doesn’t just get things done, it can also help people feel more connected to themselves, their city, and their everyday happiness.
